West Women’s Playoffs in Dallas

In Dallas Texas, today we kicked off the West Women’s Championships. The rain and snow curse of Ted Hill has been broken and we welcomed in sunny skies with a high hitting 90 all during game play. The heat and humidity was a little adjustment for the women up north. But game on!

Game 1 paired Glendale with St. Louis. St. Louis came out firing and took a quick lead just 4 minutes after KO. Glendale’s #8 went weak side off a scrum and after a slight handling error popped the ball to St. Louis. Once St. Louis got the ball to number 15 she was gone 50 meters for a try. St. Louis looked good and they kept the game tied for some time until Glendale settled in. That’s when the Glendale machine got to work. Glendale won 37 – 7. Kudos the St. Louis who moved the ball around extremely well and played a hard fought match.

Game 2 had TX locals Austin against Black Ice. West Comp Committees own Traci Schmidtke had numerous hard runs that put Austin into scoring positions (kudos Traci!). Wendy Young glided around the pitch like a skillful number 9 should. Black Ice ran hard and until the last 7 minutes of the game – had themselves in a position to win if they scored. But Austin scored 3 quick try in those 7 minutes off Black Ice handling errors and Austin won 34 -15.

Game 3 was a TX slug out. Houston Athletic Rugby Club Women and the newly formed Dallas Diablos Women hit the field and one another. While Houston prevailed, the Diablos women knocked some heads. Numerous HARC Women left the game with injures and made comments of how hard Dallas hit. In the end, it’s not how hard you hit; its how many points you score. The inexperienced showed with Dallas and HARC won 41 – 0.

Tomorrows “game o the day” will be the 12:30 KO of Austin vs Glendale. With temperatures in the 90’s and rising humidity levels, it will be a game of “who recovers the best tonight” and “who has heart”. These are the top two women’s teams and we will find out tomorrow “who is the Best in the West”.

That is it from Dallas.

Good day!
