The Texas Rugby Union Women’s All Stars will return this year! They will battle against the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union (MARF) and Chicago Area Rugby Football Union (CARFU) All Star teams on Nov 19-20 at Prairie Park in Grand Prairie, TX.
“I’m excited for the TRU to revive the All Star teams. All Stars allows us the ability to expand our game as individual players while also giving us exposure to high performance scenarios.” said Nick James, TRU Women’s Rep. “It also better prepares our players for facing higher level teams at the next level.”
The TRU has tried to revive this program at least two other times, but potential opponents have fallen through. This year we’ve sought out opponents that also see the value of All Star programs and historically have had very strong teams.
“The players in MARGU are excited to be rebooting the Women’s All Star program.” Head Coach Anna Kunkel said. “The All Star program provides higher level play to talented players on teams that may not make it to Nationals, in addition to exposing them to a high performance environment. The MARFU Women’s All Stars had 43 players out at tryouts on Saturday September 10th and will be bringing 25 players to Dallas, TX in November. ”
“We have great talent in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Despite the large geographical area in the TRU, we want the chance to bring our top talent together and put it up against the top talent from MARFU and CARFU.” TRU head coach Holly Iker commented. “We want to provide players with an opportunity to play at a higher level outside of their home clubs. We want to develop our players and give them the experience of playing on a representative side.”
All of the All Star matches as well as HEB vs Euless (Men’s D2) and Grand Prairie vs Shreveport (Men’s D3) will be broadcast online on the TRU Youtube channel.
