Reminder about Disciplinary Sanctions – Cards

Updated 1/3/2020

We have had a few instances where players have been allowed to participate in matches when under disciplinary sanctions. This is unacceptable and we urge all club presidents and administrators to review the below guidelines. Disregard or ignorance of these policies will not preclude clubs from additional disciplinary sanctions.

Anytime a card is issued, the TRU Disciplinary Committee reviews it. If additional sanction is warranted, the player and club will be notified after review.

As provided in the Laws of the Game, a second Yellow Card to the same player in a single match results in a Red Card and carries the same consequence as a Red Card.

For disciplinary purposes, receipt of a third Yellow Card by the same player within a one (1)-year period carries the same consequences as a Red Card and each subsequent Yellow Card received by that player carries the same consequences as another Red Card for disciplinary purposes.

Any player who is sent off due to a red card (or two yellow cards in the same match) is automatically suspended from all play until the matter is reviewed by the TRU Disciplinary Committee. The minimum suspension is one match or 8 days, whichever is longer. Any club or player wishing to dispute a red card should notify the Disciplinary Committee within 72 hours of the red card incident. If additional sanction is warranted, the player and club will be notified after review.

Please also note that ALL Disciplinary Rulings once determined are sent to every TRU Club as a public notice. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Disciplinary Director or email the entire Disciplinary Committee.
