2008 WEST COLLEGIATE
CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS
Congratulations to the Texas A&M Womens Side that won the 2008 West Women
Collegiate D1 Championships this past weekend with convincing wins against
Air Force [28-8] and Colorado [47-12]. They will now meet University of
California in the USA National Championship 'Sweet 16s" on April 19th in
Albuquerque, N.M.
The other Texas representatives did not
fare so well. In the Men's D1 bracket, LSU ran out of steam in the last
quarter of their game and lost 37-21 to Colorado but came back on Sunday
to defeat University of Nebraska 20-7. In the Mens Collegiate DII
semifinal Texas State went down 31-17 to University of Northern Colorado
in a closer game than the score suggests but like LSU, came back on Sunday
to defeat University of Missouri 7-0.
In the Womens Collegiate DII Championships,
Texas Tech went down to a narrow 8-0 loss against Wayne State [ the
eventual winners] but ran into trouble in the 3/4th place playoff game
against the #1 seeds Colorado State Univeristy and went down 38-0. |

TWO TEXAS
PLAYERS MAKE U20 WOMEN NATIONAL TEAM
The U.S. team is comprised
of 24 players representing 20 different high school, college and club
programs across the nation. Nine of the athletes are returning veterans
from the 2007 tours of England and Wales, while seven players were
selected from developmental squads that played in the Under-23 National
All-Star Championships and the Under-19 Invitational NASC. Eight players
are new to the program and will embark on their first ever tour with the
U-20 National Team in June.
“There were a lot of
really good athletes at the U-20 camp this year and this has made the
selection process much more difficult than in previous years,” Head Coach
Bryn Chivers said of his balanced squad.
